Hello Everyone!

I am so excited about coming (I am CERTAIN that I will!;)) to MAC.

I will be studying Accounting. Something that I have wanted to do for a while, after hearing about it from family members.

I want to know what I can expect in some of the subjects (or are they called "units"?) in first year. What about the general atmosphere in the uni...What is there to do on a daily basis?

Thats all for me.

Hope to hear from you soon!

HELLO!

Being up this late you're already halfway there. ;) Anyway:

Your COURSE is your degree. Eg B of Accounting
Your UNITS are the "subjects" you do in each semester, eg ACCG100. You can find out more about the exact units you'll be doing in the Macquarie 2006 Handbook, now avaliable online.

I'm not an accounting student so I can't go into detail about your course, but Uni life is nice... MQ has a really nice relaxed, laid-back sort of atmosphere. It's generally leafy with lovely lawns, and the size of the uni means you never really have to rush to your next class. :)

Also we have a decent food court. Good food is appreciated. :)

LOL!

I found school to be a MASSIVE web of control (Thank you advanced English!). I cannot wait for the freedom of University life. (I just hope that those brochures did not lie).

Either great minds think alike, or we've all been brainwashed. Asy votes for the latter via msn!

It's a lot more free than school, you don't feel like people are always checking up on you, you do things in your own time (i.e. maybe never :p). oh, and the last minute is your best friend

I wouldn't take them at face value. I'll admit that Uni is a hell of a lot different to regular school, but it's not really a birdcage with an open door either. But for the most part, I greatly prefer it... it becomes much more part of your life rather than the whole wakeup/school/hmoework/sleep kind of deal. You'll probably go out a lot more whilst at Uni... even though the workload might be the same as during the HSC! hahaha.

We only need Passes though ;)

hey Tin-Tin (groovy name :)). Welcome to maq. Your right, the subjects are called 'units,' you usually do 4 units per semester.. and each unit is worth credit points (usually 3 credit points).

I dont do accounting, but i can tell you that the general atmosphere is great... the campus has quite a lot of space (and we have a lake and the world famous family of ducks :p). Everyone is friendly and it is snob-free. I still havent met any snobby people and most people are easy to talk to. I was originally going to go to usyd, but i am very glad i ended up going to maq.

the uni has a lot of stuff. I good library, lots of places to eat (not to mention a massive shopping centre 5 mins away), newsagents, hairdressers, bank. and heaps more.. you may meet someone from bos at orientation day as a few of us are doing mentoring and mentor-leader (the people who will show you around).

you picked the right uni!! :)

In addition, we're all nocturnal and fairly friendly :) (with the exception of that dastardly 'mike' character, he's someone you should look out for)

Yeah, I have been nocturnal for a while. But it has been purely for pleasure and not business. ;)

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Leafy and a relaxed atmosphere, I like!

That would be your likely program of study.

As for the uni itself, it is laidback and friendly, there isnt really a hustle and bustle to the place, and is relatively slow and easy going.

There are daily things on at the bar, and Macquarie Centre is only a short distance away. :)
WOW! That is very helpful indeed. But some of those "UNITS" sounds incredelous. :(

Oh gawd, I was crossing off the time in 5-minute slots in my ENGL120 lectures semester 1 this year. So boring. My friend Katie and I would eat Kinder Suprises and play with the little toys inside :D:D

I'm such a bad role model, future MQ students please don't copy what I do... "This is just the way I did it. It is not the right or wrong way, however leaning towards wrong way if you want consistent super-high marks..."

Haha yeah, unfortunately we still need to do the relevant study ;)

And by the looks of things, you'll have a chance to balance the 2nd and 3rd year subjects with electives, from the fairly wide range of options at MQ :)

HAHAHAHA!

We're also highly prone to hijacking threads. Even if they're our own, although we're partial to other people's threads as well.

The MQ BOS community is particularly tightly-knit, I've met more people through here than I have through tutes/lectures etc. Often you can even buddy up with a fellow BOSer if you share lectures together or something :)

We're so sad... this is the most exciting thing that's happened in my life tonight since Mike and Cyan flamed the troll. *happy sigh*
