"Should homeowners who kill or injure a home intruder be exempt from prosecution?"

hmmm.... usually the result of the poll is quite obvious to me, but this one was funny

yes - 8367
no - 1743

i voted no

seems strange to me..... with rulings like this people will be afraid to step on the neighbour's lawn.

Haha that seems more than normal to me... We must remember that the legal system is never fair when it comes to the victims, afterall.

Did you notes the phrase "home intruder"?

Due to the fact that the majority of people voting in this poll are no doubt not "home intruders", it seems obvious that they would vote the way they did.

what is classified as a home intruder anyway?
a good lawyer could get someone out of murder so easy
if that was the law... just by saying that they were a home intruder
so id say no

i know eh!
the loop holes are endless!
but if robbers can get home owners to pay compensation for a bungled robbery, then i think homeowners will think twice before bashing up the friendly neighbour :p

Ah Jeezus. The 'make my day laws...dirty Harry laws' - which were intruduced by the shooters party a few years ago. I pretty sure the laws do not apply anymore.

How to kill someone and get away with it

1. Be nice to them. Become their friend

2. Invite them over for a friendly BBQ

3. Kill them

4. make out he was an intruder.

It's a stupid idea. It goes with our current obsession with private property in that we rate life just as high as property.

It suggests we are allow to kill someone if they enter our property illegally. They have not threatened or damaged our property but people feel we should be allowed to batter them to death - much like in the case of self defence. However in that case your LIFE is in danger not your property.

I believe the law of self defence would apply in the situation where a person has intruded into your property.

Property is not worth as much as a human life.
shit....

the results are now

yes - 30179
no - 5989

i'm surprised at the difference since the question specificly mentioned kill......

If such a law were to be enacted it would need to clearly specify what a home intruder was, because the loopholes would be endless.

I think it's only fair that there be some laws to protect the homeowner. It is ludicrous that they can't touch someone who is stealing their personal belongings which probably have a lot of sentimental value.

In a way it's sad to think that someone can be locked away for accidentally killing someone (self defence) who broke into their home in the middle of the night, tried to take the persons belongings, and scared them.

well, self defence falls under different catagory. you can't accidently kill someone who broke into your house. you have to go an kill them.

There was a guy in England who accidentally killed a thief who was in his house. The guy had a shotgun which he was just going to scare the ppl with, but then they shined a torch on him, which startled him, he fired and killed the thief.
I'd saythat was an accident.
