My maths head hates formulas.

He always draws a diagram for general solutions (trig) and then deduces the general solution. He said he would put a general solution that cannot use the formula. Any ideas on whether this is even conceivable?

That's what i do, but in my head lol.

There are some special cases that can only be generalised by thinking or through drawing out the graph as your maths head does.

If your maths head teacher wants you to follow that, do it.

Although in the HSC exam, you should be able to just use the formula.

I'm not aware of any formulae for 'general solutions'. My principle is to find all solutions in 1 revolution, and chuck a k2pi or a kpi at the end, depending on whether it is sine/cosine or tan respectively.

Yep that lol. Although need to remember whether you use depending on which trig function it is.

Herher...you sound exactly like him =D. Ok - I'll just be aware. He said they usually never put it in the HSC because the formula is so widely used...and hence no actual mathematical knowledge would be required.
