Hi, I'm an international student currently studying in UNSW. I am about to discontinue my program in UNSW. I just want to get some advice.
I had a hard time in UNSW. I honestly think that university is exclusively for genius students or maybe because I haven't been in school for 10 years.
UTS Insearch accepted me in their foundation studies, a pathway to Bachelor of Nursing. If I accept their offer, I will start on October. The nursing program in UTS only commences every February. Meaning, after my foundation studies, there will be a nine-month-gap. According to immigration rules, international students are only allowed to have two-month full vacation(?). I have to enroll myself in a short course to fill the gap, then start my bachelor's degree on Feb 2015.
I'm still waiting for my ACU and UWS result. I applied directly to their bachelor program. If they will accept me, I have to wait until Feb 2014. It's not practical to go back home. So I also have to be in a short course to fill my vacant months.
I would like to know, basing on what I've mentioned, which is more practical? If you are in my shoes, which is more ideal? I was too overwhelmed after 10 years of non-studying so I thought it will be better for me to start from scratch, but then, there's the money issue and of course, the time.
I know UTS has the best reputation compared to the other two, but considering my condition, which uni will be better for me. Which uni will guide me better? Which one will be more helpful?
Another thing, I am not a Christian and very liberal (the reason why I chose UNSW actually, though most students there are snobs). I think I will have a hard time in ACU. My friends in UNSW are discouraging me from studying in UWS. They said it's horrible. One even said, it's the university for dumb people (ouch!)
Well, it's not like I'm smart anyway and I'm here to learn after all. I just thought he said that because the quality of teaching is poor? I don't know the answer, but the quality of teaching in UNSW is not exemplary either (except for Maths. Damn they're seriously good in Math.)
I'm hoping to study in a university where I can learn, will not be intimidated, will be happy, will meet new people, students are not snobs (especially white student. not trying to be racist or anything, but white students and male middle eastern students are snobs and seriously intimidating.)
I'm not looking for a 'utopia'. I just want to be happy. I'm suffering from depression for almost a decade now and I just don't want unnecessary things to contribute to my mental health. Thank you in advance for your help.
