hi,
i need some help. see i'm unsure of whether its a bad idea not to use browning as my main chunka text. see, after two terms i hate the guy and i don't think the poems are any better in talking about individual and society than P&P and Dolls House. however, my teacher reckons that "this is perfect for individual and society, girls!" and so i'm scared of not taking her advice. the thing is, i can talk techniques in dolls house really well, except she thinks the play is a "just in case" text. hmmm.... am unsure of what to do...any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Write about what you know best in the exam. Browning does have a lot to do with I&S, but if you feel more comfortable writing about A Dolls House then write about it... you want to maximise your marks. If you are struggling with Browning, look on the main page under EE1 notes, I posted some brief Browning notes up there I think.

ALL the prescribed texts deal with I&S - A Doll's House just as much as Browning. The main thing is to write about the texts that you feel you know the best. Markers comments show that candidates who attempt Browning either do exceptionally well or exceptionally poorly, with hardly any in the middle. Therefore I would advise not to use his work if you feel uncomfortable with it.

i agree with the above ppl, if u don't feel comfortable using browning then don't...But Browning isn't that bad...he shows the failure of the individual (porphyria's lover) really well....but then again Doll's house does that too (when nora leaves the house for winter setting)....anyway its up to u...

Question: our teacher also told us that the board of studies may specify the text we write about althought this is unlikely....is everyone just preparing to write on like 2 prescribed and 2 related or sumthin like that?

Also, make sure it is able to gel well with your related texts...

i know all 3 texts well, though usually i dont talk bout browning coz my one of my related texts is a poem and they gel better with ibson and langton. but i still study browning in case the question they ask is better with him.
