Gordian Knot does the trick, it has all the relevant stuff inside it, and just follow the simple steps.

I've used about three different systems to ripping DVDs...

If you want the legal approach, purchase DivX pro, or what program they've got now, Dr DivX (their older program) was simple enough, but like most other things theres always an alternative that just as easy and free..

You can use a video conversion program called FlaskMPEG, its fairly old now, but quite featured and complicated. You can do alot of stuff, but you've gotta have some idea what your doing.

Then theres Gordian Knot, as mentioned above, which is quick simple and pretty fool proof.

For retail DVDs, you will need to decrypt them to your computer first before you can convert the movie to an avi file. Such programs are SmartRipper, and DVD decrypter (this one works well with Gordian Knot).
