So basically from this equation, you must make y the subject and differentiate in order to give you the first derivative. Ie. dy/dx which is how you find the gradient of a tangent. Then you would sub in the point to find the required gradient of the tangent and form two tangents where you will solve them simultaneously to find a POI.

As for the gradient of a normal - It is the negative reciprocal of the gradient of the tangent. For instance, if the gradient of the tangent is m, the negative reciprocal would be -1/m. Again, form two equations of the normal using those two points and solve simultaneously.
