ok..i read something briefly about this today and was confused..anyone wanna explain?

pax romana refers to the period of peace that Augustus ushers in when he stops civil war. That sreally all ya'd need to know about it. Its nuthin major

pax romana literally mean peace with the gods. Its kinda the whole point of Roman religion. You know how they take the auspices and stuff to see if the gods approve of what they're gonna do, say go to war or get married etc. hope that helps!

emmma, you've got your definitions wrong. What you are referring to is pax deorum, which means 'peace with the gods'. Pax Romana means 'Roman peace'. If you are going to mention Pax Romana, you will need to refer to Augustus' policy of reducing the number of legions from 60 to 28 (it goes down to 25 after the Varus incident of 9AD). Also mention how Augustus stopped further conquests.

You would mention Pax Romana if there's a question about Augustus' reforms, not just the army.

The best place to use it is with relations to the army since the term means "Roman Peace" and Augustus ended the civil wars. But that's personally. You could slip it in with any of his reforms.

i tend to disagree since the very basis of roman rule, and the majority of ancient cultures was religion, and the pax romana played an invaluable part not only in the establishment of the imperial cult, but also of the re-structuralisation of Rome under Augustus...
