I'm currently living in New Zealand and want to go to Sydney for uni (in particular UTS (communications)), I was wondering if it is possible to afford to go to university and live in Sydney without qualifying for a student allowance or HECS (??), I have a few grand saved up but I was planing on attempting to get some regular part-time work (are there many jobs avaliable). I was thinking about staying at one of the uni's residental places.

UTS Communication is somewhere around AUD $53,000 to $60,000 for the entire course; but you've also got to factor in other stuff as well, accommodation, travel etc

You'll need at least $20 000 a year just to pay course fees. You also have expenses of accomodation, travel, food etc to add to that.

To be eligable for CSP place, you must:
1) Meet the citizenship and residency requirements
  • an Australian citizen or
  • a New Zealand citizen; or the holder of a permanent visa and
  • you must be resident in Australia for the duration of your study
2) Have enough Student Learning Entitlement to cover each unit you are enrolling
