√l is the independant variable, thats the length of the string, you can alter it throughout the experiment ...
T is the dependant variable (on √l) , because if √l changes, so does T.
a bit like y = 2 x +3 ... if x is 2 then y = 7, if x is 5 then y = 13 ...
as one mentioned earlier ...
