jacaranda says its where you have transducer heads out of phase with each other
BUT
Macquarie say that its where you measure the phase of the waves to give you extra information?

Whats the dealio yo?

A phase scan is when a transducer emits ultrasound from at a stationary point and is able to view around bends in the body. This is done by firing the ultrasound from each single piezoelectric crystal or set of them out of phase with each other, i.e. a time difference between each wave exists. This has the intended effect of being able to view around corners or objects blocking the view from one point. Basically all you need to know is what they do in a phase scan and why it is done, no need to get into detail. IF what you're saying about differing ideas in the two texts books is correct stick with the one you learnt. However they are both implying the same thing, one talks about sending them out of phase and the other talks about recieving them out of phase, and yes measuring them out of phase does give you extra info because you can view more, Jacaranda says the same thing, just different words. Cheers!!
