I am the one
does physics help you become a better math student?

ive noticed that in physics there is so much maths, im sure doing physics makes you a bit better and quicker when doing pure maths

is this asumption correct? should i change to physics even though i hate science and just want to do it for the maths?

(i can change even if it is a bit late)

i think physics will always help math and math will always help physics. i got this gay joke about the difference between physics and math:

"Physics professor has been doing an experiment, and has worked out an emphirical equation that seems to explain his data. He asks the math professor to look at it.

A week later, the math professor says the equation is invalid. By then, the physics professor has used his equation to predict the results of further experiments, and he is getting excellent results, so he asks the math professor to look again.

Another week goes by, and they meet once more. The math professor tells the physics professor the equation does work, "But only in the trivial case where the numbers are real and positive."

should b the otherway around i think, where maths helps physics, if the HSC physics has not b defiled as such. so no dont bother.

Maths will help Physics when you have maths in Physics eg Uni. But for HSC the help is trivial

Nah its trivial
Without even mentioning the mechanics in ext2 math, even projectile motion and ext1/2u kinematics by far surpasses the riff raff you do with vectors and motion in physics

Yeah but if there actually was Maths in the physics course like uni physics, its helpful. Thats why you have so many people doing double majors in Maths and Physics.

is it just me... why is everyone else thinking hsc physics instead of uni... seriously why would someone ask about hsc physics??? who the hell doesn't know hsc science is a joke... :p

i thought it was about uni because of the words "pure math". meh i don't know... this is gay. :p

when i did circular motion, i felt that physics helped maths more than the other way round. it mightnt have actually helped, but there was an advantage for us physics students who were literally doing the same things in space at the same time!

maths is the language of physics.....but the HSC Physics course doesn't really show it...

to help your physics...take up english.

to help maths....dont take up anything...spend that time practising.

You dont have to take up English to help yoru physics the Board of Studies already took it up for you ;) What friendly chaps they are

Alot of people in my physics class are doing general maths and are still going ok with physics.. i think physics helps in maths 4 unit with the whole motion stuff..

It all depends how you percieve motion. When I first saw the physics equations, I was stumped how the derived them, but once we started integration in year 11, I understood why they worked. By the time I got to 4 unit, I found that the use of formulas was only helpful for checking purposes, whereas the mathematics behind it helped me fully appreciate the concept.

i hate how the new physics course has soo little maths in it compared to the old. i don't like the explanation questions, they do a lot of impression marking on these (incl. judge your handwriting, yep our school does it). and the marking grid is such that you must mention points A and B, if you mention C and it is utterly correct, you still don't gain marks. having said that, most ppl i know who are mathematically inclined do really well in physics in HSC anyway. So, from experience, maths does help physics in numerical prob solving, but maths (particularly 4U) also overlaps into physics in some topics (it's kind of 2-way, i think).
