for windows you should put the different versions.. just put up win2k, and 9x/ME

I think Windows will win out, as the majority of computing/home users will be running (a minimum) of Windows 98, 2000 or nowadays, XP having been deployed through OEMs (of course, custom built PCs can also run XP).
XP will be the OS of choice for most, unless they're die-hard 2000 or 98 users
I voted for Windows (of course), everyone uses it (most people...) -- and everyone knows how to use it, so that's why I haven't made the switch to Mac (that, and the money issue)

we have 3 OS at home, its soo confusing. Dad's got an imac, mum uses win xp pro and i use linux. but yeah, dunno wot we were thinking when we got 3 diff OS...its crazy.

yeah windows will win
i used both win2k and linux.. altho i dont really use my main linux box as a desktop OS it is just a router/firewall. but i have it installed on my main box anyway..

How do you learn to use those command type OS's?
Like linux do you read up heaps or just trial and error?
And php. How did you guys learn it? I'm in the process of learning php but then can't really test anything out due to lack of php enabled server.

umm..
trial and error i guess, i only read a book if i think its worth reading.
For linux i did have some friends who knew it fairly well so i sorta of knew what was going on before hand due to them letting me muck around on their servers..
PHP.. well i taught my self just went around on the net and looked for some tutorials got started foudn out i liked it so i baught a book and went from there.. PHP is similar to C/C++ which are nice clean languages
unlike java.. java can burn in hell!!!!!!!!!!
so the moral of the story is dont wait to be taught somethign go and do it your self!

are u guyz using linux Red hat? or Debian?
i think u can get debian from one of the PC World books or something. i kn0w debian is the hackers OS. =0D lol. someone told me that, i cant remember why it ish though

Nah seriously, all are good at a certain thing (depends on what u do with it). e.g. u cant say linux is better than windows for gamming and you also cant say windows is better than linux for its stability. So they're all good in my book (except OSX).

But hey, if u come to think about it the only way windows made it to the top was by stealing ideas from apple. Apple created the first GUI well there was one b4 apple but apple was going to sell their GUI to the public, and then microsoft copied them.
SO imagine wat would happen if microsoft lost that case and had to withdraw their os from the market??. Lots of changes, and things would be much different. more people would prolly be using macs and shit. ahh well apple lost the case anyway lol. i think they have something called intellectual property now, so any ideas thought in the mind are copyright protected.
but yeah imagine that, a world full of macs heehheeh.
