I went to a VSU focus group and found some of the plans they are proposing.

currently the fees are devided as:
~$40 WUSA, ~$150 URAC, ~$160 Unicentre

What they are proposing is a two (three?) level membership

Free level.
Basic services
voting in elections
Basicly not much

Premium level
Many discounts (similar to what you get now)
- 10% on textbooks
- about 10% on hot food
- special draws (prizes include parking ticket)
- events

Priority when buying tickets at events

student card (or separate card) to be used as one of
those voucher cards.

I can imagine people being hassled for cheap food though....

Cost for premium is around $120 it seems

and insurance at URAC might be gone

What do you guys think?

I'd pay $120 for that.

1. Does free membersgip include student representation if you have a grievance issue?

2. I'd imagine a sudden boost in popularity for people who join the premium level. Cheapos like me will make them use their membership cards to pay for my textbooks and hot food. :p

3. WTF, we currently have a 12.5% discount on textbooks. What will happen to the remaining 2.5% if we join as a financial member? HUH! HUH???!!??!! :p

I didn't think of that. There is no point everyone joining premium level because people can buy stuff for each other.

LoLz as if. I'll just tell them to join and I'll get all the benefits. That's what friends are for! :p

Most essential services remain for free members, nothing final yet.

lol, didn't think of it that way

yeah, they said 10% on text books and 20% on general books. They may change it. In focus group we didn't really care about 2.5%, but if your really passionate I can pass it on.

this $120 is just for unicentre.

you will need to pay more for URAC membership and WUSA (which I think will die)

I'm currently supporting VSU for the sole reason that I want to see the union die a slow death after cramming all this 'anti VSU' scare-crap down my throat for the last three months.

I'm disappointed in you hfis. You must learn to realise that there are soooo many more reasons for them to die a horrible disturbing death.

Uni collapse.. ohnoes. I heard rumours that they'll be selling universities and converting them to residential aged care facilities and teenage abortion clinics... If it does happen at least it'll solve the problems of an ageing population with slutty kids. Who needs an education when you have petty crime and kittens to kick.

We won't get any commercial outlets, because only being open for 30-odd weeks a year is certainly not commercially viable......the whole reason the unibar would need to shut down.

They may put a couple at usyd but thats cos its in the city and has plenty of visitors year-round. Not to mention the much larger student population.

But wouldn't they just rent the place and pay for the 30 odd weeks. I think they could come up with some sort of agreement? The Bar better not shut!
