Hi all,
Just got a prac exam today:

"You are to carry out a first hand investigation to identify the factors that affect the rate of an electrolysis reaction. The method will be given to you as a brief outline. The task is to be submitted as a formal prac write up"

I dislike chem with a passion, so If anyone knows what the factors are, or would like to help, I would be greatful.
Cheers,
SGTSLICK :D

Three factors affect the rate of electrolysis:

(1) The concentration of ions in the solution - more ions => more charge carriers => faster rate of electrolysis.

(2) The surface area of the metal - bigger area => higher rate

(3) The distance between the electrodes - less distance => ions don't have to travel as far => higher rate again.

That's all I know...

Good luck for your prac!
