what kind of questions could they ask on a practical applications test? considering we've covered complex numbers, polynomials, graphs, integration, conics and volumes by slicing.

All maths test is paper and pen, and do those questions...

as in its a test on the "practical applications" of what we're doing. so its not gonna be a straight complex numbers or conics question or whatever, its going to be put in a real life situation or something.

oh thats a tricky one to prepare for...maybe for volumes they could ask you to calculate the volume of water in a river or something like that. I cant think of practical applications for any of the other topics you've done. If you'd done mechanics, theres heaps of practical stuff they could ask like the angle of banking on a new road to be built etc.

The most common thing that they will ask about applying mathematical methods to "real" situations is in the mechanics section. That's about it, but then most if not all of the questions you have done have an analogy to the question (this is mechanics) then they say find the blah blah

Um, sounds like they just apply 'real life' words into your test to make it an applied maths test? I knew that JR one year put 'calculate your UAI' question into the trial paper. That's pretty cool. Don't stress out. You'll be able to identify basic components to apply your maths into anyway.
