I've memorised an essay for BR/BNW and am presently in the process of memorising one for Frontline.... stuffs to King Lear, I have dot points that I don't even know.... the trick is to write a basic intro that leads into your texts and leave the conclusion -- that way you nail the thesis in the exam.

I've memorised all mine (approximately 90% word for word) because I had time to and was bothered. Under cramming conditions, I would just learn the quotes and main points.
