this is like the basics of functions but how do i quickly determine which value is continuous? this is a multiple choice question so i cannot be drawing up graphs since i have to restrict my time on mc

for the function to be continuous at a specific point, the two parts of the function need to match up at that point. in this case, we need the two expressions for the function to be equal at x = 1

now just sub in x = 1, and try the options for a = ? to see which option will lead to two equal expressions
