I have the worst study habits ever. I'm hitting either average C's to high B's with the occasional D's in my assessments because I don't study. I've been content for the past 4 years (7-10) with getting a few C's and B's and a few A's though realising the pressure Year 11 has on me, I need to get my life in order for the added pressure of Year 12.

Question is, is it too late for me to set myself up psychologically for good study habits from next term (HSC course) and onwards?

I don't have any extra-curricular activities other than probably occasionally taking photographs and training my photographic eye for the future.

Thanks :)

Helloooo

i have the same problem as you. i remember doing well during year 7-10 without studying and now have prelims next week :/
i think all you need basically is motivation. i find it helpful to write out reasons why i want to do well and stick it on my wall infront of my study desk. but no its not too late to set good study habits. ive been advised to just spend 40 min each day on the subjects you had at school that certain day and after that you either have free time or can work further on assignments

hope that helps a bit :)

Its very important to have good study habits/strategies formed before going into your HSC year. Whilst you shouldnt stress out too much over year 11 (also, dont do excessive amounts of work as you may "burnout" before year 12), you need to get your study habits/strategy down before entering the HSC, so you can focus on other, more important things. However, just because you havent formed good study habits before year 12 doesnt mean your doomed for your HSC (this is especially the case if you dont have very high goals in the HSC). It just creates more issues in the HSC year which you have to deal with.

Highly agree with enoilgam.
It's never too late until the fat lady sings (well that's if you're at my school, and the Principal sings - 'Onto the HSC now' -) at the end of Term 3.

Use the yearly examinations to try and experiment with techniques on how to study and different methods, and hopefully you'll find a suitable method tailored just for you. Don't focus on your averages for year 11, as they'll just permeate future negativity in your acedemia. Focus on just doing your best, use the prospect of your future as motivation. :) Don't worry too much either, I know some incredibly bright people who didn't quite learn the 'right' ways to prepare for assessments until year 12 (some didn't quite work it out until the half yearlies in year 12) and quite a number of them have worked hard to earn good marks and ranks. :) Just keep up hope, use the time left to work on some strategies to find a suitable study methods, and focus on the positives. n_n
