What is all the assumed knowledge in the preliminary course that will be tested in the HSC for Biology and Physics? For chemistry, I know that these foundations will be necessary for the HSC:
  1. Ions - formulae, balancing equations - states
  2. Type of chem. reactions: ppt (precipitate), redox, acid+base, combustion, combination, decomposition etc.
  3. Moles - calculations, concentration, dilutions - calculations, gas volumes, delta H = -mC delta
  4. Carbon chemistry
What about for Bio and Phys? Preferably if 08'ers can answer. Thanks in advance :).

In terms of Physics, a bit of the topic on 'space' from prelim is reviewed in the first hsc topic, which is also on space, and the electrical energy in the home topi is also re examined in the motors and egneratos opic, particulaly that on magnetism and solenoids (current carrying conductors), etc

I've gone through the Space module and I found Moving About pretty useful.

You'll need to know Moving About for Space, and quite a bit of Electrical Energy in the Home for Motors and Generators.

Just know your core basics from prelim.
If you have any holes in your knowledge then it's going to pop up pretty easily and you can just go back and refresh if necessary. :)

also depends on your elective as well
Like Namu?

I think the only real important topic from the prelimiary course is the Electrical energy one. The otehr HSC course modules are standalone and you can get by without the prelimiary course.

ok seriously from prelim electrical energy is in motors and generators however if u dont remember it doesnt matter because u recover everything u need to know

seriously this is how it basically is not much prelim is needed for hsc course however the knowledge u do need WILL BE RECOVERED BY TEACHER so dont stress i mean keep ur notes by all means but dont rely heavily on them.

also ok no offense by how do u 2009ers know u havent even started the damn hsc course sure u can look at syllabus but i mean if u look at an exam NOT ALL OF IT IS IN IT some of it doesnt get put in its only the main focuses which isnt the prelim stuff

Maybe we go to tutoring. Maybe we've had a look at the syllabus or looked at textbooks or past exam papers. I don't think any of us '09ers claim to know everything, but just from what we've seen, there are some aspects of the Prelim course that are pertinent to the HSC material we have seen.

no offense but ok looking having tutor all that cant compare to someone who has actually COVERED THE HSC course also having done TRIAL HSC allows me and every one else doing physics hsc this year much better view on what is truly important and heavily tested in the hsc.

i mean its not that u dont know but u dont really have correct weighting behind the significance of what stuff u need to remember from prelim and also u obviously dont know that ANYTHING U DO NEED DOES GET RECOVERED in class

from: 2007 HSC NOTES FROM THE MARKING CENTRE - PHYSICS
(this is a document compiled by the senior markers of the HSC)

one of the points they make "it is important to understand that the PRELIMNARY HSC Course is assumed knowledge for teh SHC Course"

dont just take their word on it - look at Q26 (c), in which u need to apply a Year 11 formula (Energy = Pt = VIt) to a HSC question (transformers)

ie. No u dont need to remeber every little thing, but u need to have payed attention and UNDERSTOOD the Preliminary Course

I had a dodgy teacher and to be honest, we haven't even TOUCHED that formula.

Re: 回复: Re: Preliminary Physics knowledge for the HSC?

then if i were u, get ur hands on a good text book (physics contexts or jacaranda) and read through it a bit eeach day these holidays - understand the concepts, how things work, etc - and i am sure u wont regret this, although u may not need to rote learn or remeemba this, im sure it will aid in ur physics skills..
