Hi Guys,

After being driven crazy by my last ISP I decided to change to unwired, the new wireless one. Everything in the signup process is fine until it gets up to setting my IP address.... I get an error message and it says that my IP address is a IONA private address or something.

Any ideas what I can do to resolve this problemo?

It could be a whole heap of things that could be causing this kind of problem (sometimes hard to find too!). You would be best to contact the ISP first.

Is there any other way I can get ipconfig besides using the ipconfig command in command prompt? Because for some reason that command has never worked on my computer, and I know when I ring up tech support they will tell me to type it in....

ipconfig doesn't work but that isn't what is causing the problem but the little tech support people flip out when it doesn't work so I need to be able to get all the ipconfig info some other way.... my flatmate did it for me before but he is at work and forgot to tell me how to do it lol.

Whats the error when you try to run command?

Try Start => Run => cmd or Start => Run => command

They both start the command prompt.

When I type in ipconfig it says ipconfig is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Try this: Start up a command prompt, and type:

cd \ <enter>
cd Windows <enter>
cd system32 <enter>
ipconfig <enter>

Beautiful my ipconfig works now.

So now should I just ring up the techie people at unwired and get them to help me?

Yeh that would be a better way. There could be many reasons why you're not getting a IP from them.

I got it to work now, it's pretty good, nice and speedy. I'm on 256 because I'm poor :(

Apparently it was because there is some weird IP thing installed on Windows XP Service Pack 2 which I just downloaded the other day which needed to be uninstalled because it isn't ready for use yet or something.... I can't remember what it was called sorry!!!!

lol another SP2 problem...just seems to keep piling up
I wouldn't call it a problem.....it was intended that way to stop exploits. It stuns me that the ISP requires their customers to not install SP2 to get on their service rather than them coming up with a workaround that works with SP2.

Nah you just needed to uninstall a little componant of SP2, not the whole thing....
