"pick a song that could be considered political--> does it challenge or support stereotypes or express marginalised cultural identities? does it communicate ideas that are empowering (or dissempowering) and for whom? does it question or affirm established ideology?"

thats the question.
ps. less swearing the better.
less screamo the better.

I think a good one would be Politician by Cream. I also suggest Radiohead, they present quite a few issues on protest. This may not interest you but there are many musicals out there with very clear protests, such as When Pigs Fly. Or just pick a Hendrix Song or maybe Led Zeppelin E.g Immigrant song, communication Breakdown.

what? immigrant song is complete nonsense. it just so happens that LZ's rep has made it some serious mythical thing.

Blowin' in the wind - bob dylan

Public Enemy: Fight the Power, 911 is a Joke
NWA: Fuck the Police
Jimi Hendrix: Machine Gun
Minor Threat: In My Eyes
Bob Dylan: The Hurricane, Maggies Farm

Plus anything by Rage, System of a Down, and there are other PE songs but those two are the main ones.
