well do you just want to store the video files or have them play on your dvd player/tv or something??

the 2nd option is a lot harder cause you would have to convert files and it would end up poor quality

Atticus.

how do i get out of this

How would you like to view the TV shows though:
- To be watched on a computer
- To be watched on a TV through a DVD player

If you just want to watch it on a computer; From Nero's "New compilation" choose "DVD-ROM (ISO)", click "New", select the files and press "Ctrl + 1" to add to compilation, Once done click the burn icon (a disc with the match thingy)

If you wish to watch it on a TV through a DVD player there are many ways but I'll show you my way (because I already have the required programs); run "Ulead DVD MovieFactory" (i have version 3 SE), start a project - New Project output to DVD click Next, press "Alt + V" to add video files (you will notice the disc usage measurement down the bottom KEEP THIS BELOW 4.7GB - the red line - otherwise you're overburning) once done click Next, select your menu template (there're different genres you may choose from a list on top-right hand corner) click Next once done, now you get a replica of what the whole thing looks - you can play the whole movie etc. (NB: If making a motion menu it's fine that it lags a bit, it wont show in the final result) click Next, if you want to have the compiled DVD image to be saved select "Create disc image file: <the directory\dvd.iso>", select "Record to disc" and once done your options click "Output".

Of course if you haven't got Ulead DVD MovieFactory you cannot produce the result. But that's my way and how I prefer doing it. I don't like creating a DVD movie with Nero but making VCD or SVCD through Nero is fine.

Well I got them as a package for free because I bought my DVD burner "Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-107D". I think most companies also do the same thing, have a look around your applications for such programs.
If there is none, i think Windows XP has a program "Windows Movie Maker" can be found in Program Files\Accessories\Windows Movie Maker and I came across this article. As far as that I can't help you any further :(
