Hey Everyone,

Look... Im doing Maths Extension 1 at the moment and am finding it very difficult. My teacher says it's going to be like 10x harder then what we are doing now.

I want to get into Medicine at Uni but I have a question..

Can you still get into medicine without doing Extension 1 Maths but doing the following subjects and aceing them: Mathmatics, English Advanced, Chemistry, Biology, Food Tech

Thanks for your help guys!

There are no prerequisites for medicine in NSW - however, chemistry is usually recommended. Since you only just started prelim, you should probably keep at it and try to improve your game. As you need a high ATAR for medicine, you should have some subjects which scale well up your sleeve. However, if by the end of the year you are still struggling badly, then you should probably consider dropping it.

Yes you can but its not just about ATAR. You have to do UMAT and sit through an additional interview.
Cutoffs at most unis are in the 99+ range whilst UWS offers it for 95 or 93 if you're in the GWS area.
However I recommend keeping MX1 and getting a tutor if you must because it scales very well.

Yeah, We have a Maths Extension 1 Test coming up with 3D Trig which I find really difficult. The teacher said if we go bad in this test we should consider dropping. Maybe his just trying to scare me?

Getting a tutor probably is a good idea so I will defientley think about that.

Thanks for the quick replys guys!

With quite a few schools, the first exams in 2 unit and 3 unit are designed to be especially hard in order to encourage the lower students to drop. Doing poorly in the first exam in prelim doesnt mean that you should drop the subject altogether. I nearly failed my first 2 unit exam from prelim but I stuck with the subject and ended up doing well in it.

If you dont have a tutor and you are struggling, get one ASAP. they can really help.
But yeah be warned it does get heapsss harder. I do 4u atm and thought 3u was a breeze in yr11 but now im having trouble doing the yr 12 2u work. You have to be prepared to work extremely hard if you want to do well. MX1 is a lot of work for a 1 unit subject.

Definitely consider getting a tutor to help you if things get too hard.

Side note: I think Chem is a prerequisite for Monash Uni.
