Hi all :), just have a question that I'm not too sure how to answer it:

The Earth's atmosphere doesn't really have sharply defined layers. Why do scientists use the layered model to describe the Earth's atmosphere? Why is it useful?

Thanks in advance! :D

its alot easier to draw and represent as layers, some really nice diagrams have a gradient effect and colour coordinate each layer (such as troposphere and stratosphere), but it takes 1/10 of the time to just draw it layered

they couldnt really ask you this in the hsc but neway

why?
easier for scientists to study the atmosphere and carry out experiments involving the atmosphere. just like classification in biology
