is it okay to use your current employer as a reference for another job application? just wondering if it is something that people normally do or not.. i don't want to switch jobs ie i want to continuing working with my current employer but i also want to apply for a 2nd job, should i use one of my current bosses as a reference for that job? this new job will probably not interfere with my current one

It's okay to do, but u should tell ur employer that your only interested in a second job, not to replace the current one. That means u shouldnt get penalised for looking for another job.

I agree- it's best to let your current employer know what's going on so they aren't left in the dark. Tell them why you're looking for another job, what you hope to achieve, etc... Alot of people nowadays are very understanding. After all, a happy employee is a productive one.
