some questions that i am realli confused about:

this is wat i know so far:

for journey (ie. paper 1), we are required to study prescriped text, the stimulus booklet (onli the texts which r related to wat we tryin to prove) and our chosen related material (which ihave 3 decided)

in reading section, we are moslty gonna b asked about how jouney is shown, wat journy is shown and why in numberous texts

in essay (or watever they asked by then), we have to chose a few issues we would like to prove about journey (ie. it leads to a betta understanding of blahblah).. then back it up wif the texts

if the issues we choose r very different and orginal, do they somehow give ourselves an advantage? can the exam specifises which text (e.g certain poems etc.) that we need to prove wif? can they also ask us to prove a certain issue??

thx for that pplz! ^o^ will post others when i think of them. thx!!

The issues you are referring to are also known as "thesis"s. From what I know, you only need one and that is all you need, otherwise the essay becomes too long and confusing to read for the marker. So you focus on one main point and back it up with evidence.

In an exam question, they will always give a theme to talk about involving journeys, they are always very general such as "How have your texts shaped your understanding of the physical journey" or "Journeys are limits. Discuss". All you need to do is answer the question throughout your essay and support it with the evidence that you have prepared for.

They will ask you to answer whatever question is asked, but it is very general. Therefore, you can prepare for the essay by knowing all your techniques and quotes, and by answering practice questions before hand. Basically you can write any essay about the theme/issue asked with your techniques and quotes, but you need to adapt it to the question by answering what the question asks instead of talking about something else. Does that make senese now? :)

This might not be recommendable advice, and your teachers wouldn't tell you, but from the experience of me and people I know, you'll be fine as long as you have an essay ready - just chuck a part of the question into your introduction or conclusion. :p

That is also what I am planning to do. Basically all you need to know are your quotes and techniques from each text, you will need to pretty much everything else including topic sentences and the parts where you answer the question from scratch, unless the question is very similar or the same as the one you prepared your essay for. (my first assessment was the same question as the essay I had prepared. XD)

A friend of mine left everything to the very last minute, memorised an essay the morning of the exam, and jigged a whole day because he hasn't started the assessment due the next day.

He got an UAI of 99.55 (I might be 0.05 off) and duxed our grade. How ZOMG is that?

Though one thing for sure is that, if you're in Year 11 atm, you cannot unfortunately study for ANY aspects for English Advanced nor Standard.

The reason for this, is because your teacher/class chooses the prescribed text. Your Prescribed texts will be from one text-type only in each module/AOS. So i.e. If your class finished King Lear [Play] for Module B, you cannot do a play for Module C, A, or Area of Study [AOS].

If you're lucky, your teacher might do the infamous study of Skrzynecki's poem for AOS, Module A: BladeRunner/Brave New World [Novel], Module B: King Lear [Shakespeare's play], and Module C: Frontline [Media].

However, a good suggestion to all Year 11s is to start practicing true essay structures, you'll be amazed at how many essays you'll be writing, and how many times you'll need to write it in order to both complete the 2 papers for English HSC, and score band 5/band 6.

But a word of advice, avoid memorising essay unless if its your fail-safe [back-up plan], owing to the fact that the essay question for your HSC may not be your pre-planned essay question. In fact, answering the essay question is the big difference between a band 5 essay and a band 3 essay. However, always keep in mind that Modules A, B, C may not be all essays, however a general trend is seen that Module B is an essay-type question [exception of 2002 of course].

Additionally, if you've been struggling with essay structures, there isn't much to do except for Practice, Practice, Practice. However, most of the time an English tutor may be beneficial, though English texts do vary from year to year, I've heard rumours that 2006 will change its prescribed texts.

The main thing that the '07ers need to be aware of is they will be doing a different Area of Study, our year is the last doing journeys, but you can still practice the structure of your essays, as Rekkusu stated previously.

I wonder what the next Area of Study will be?

That's true, but you don't get as much help and advice from others such as on bos.
