If X(y) = y - y^2, find X(y+b) - X(b)

im not sure if this is makes a difference but in the excel book the X's are...squiggly, not in the normal font.

i thought it would just be something like:
xy = y - y^2
therefore x = 1 + y, but the answers are showing something completely different which i have had no luck decyphering.

a worked out solution + explanation would help greatly.

X(y) = y-y²
X(y+b) = (y+b)-(y+b)²
X(b) = b-b²
X(y+b) - X(b) = [(y+b)-(y+b)²] - (b-b²)

You can solve from there

X(y) is basically a similar notation to f(x), they're just using different pronumerals.
