Someone tell me what colour Mercury (Hg) produces in a flame test.

u dont have to know mercury i dont think? u only have to know the certain ions

You observe it through a spectroscope and you'll see many lines of many different wavelengths

Apparently we use a gas discharge tube :/

I'm guessing the discharge tube would excite the electrons so then you can observe the emission spectra

Yeah but the only picture I saw of it was dodge. It looks kinda Aqua-Bluey-Whitey-Purpley or something.

lol thats a whole lotta colours, well i dont think i did that bit :S
