i have pretty got the info for ranke, however there is one complication that has arisen from my research. though i rea;lise that there would be some sort of debate of differnet historians. but this is different.

i tend to find that ranke is not termed as an enlightenment historian as such, but a predecessor of it. as a result i am not sure what kind of historian he is.

if anyone has any clue please help me out

thanking all of you in advance

Well, first and foremost I would classify him as an empiricist, before even considering whether hes one of the age of enlightenment. I dont feel its particularly important whether he is technically pre-enlightenment or enlightenment.
BUT, I have the notes of a lecture given by Dr John Ferry, from the School of Classics, History and Religion, University of New England, on the "Philosophies of History" and in this, Dr Ferry calls von Ranke, along with the likes of Karl Marx and Charles Darwin, as the Three Great Thinkers of the Age of Optimism. Take this as you will, if it fits with your notes or not.

thats a lot of help. its because my teacher said for me to do enlightenment history with ranke as my focus. the questions that we have to answer within the 30 minute presentation would be:
who are the historians?
what are the purposes of history?
how has history been constructed and recoded over time?
why have approaches to history changed over time?
what are the historical debates?
