a lot of questions will have surds answers...but do we need to rationalised the answer in order to be allowed full marks...

like the question will only be like work out blah blah blah without mentioning u need to rationalise it...but a lot of the answers i read requires u to rationalise it...

so i'm asking, is it neccessary?

i think so, if the question says, "simplest exact answer".

rationalising shouldnt be the hard bit, getting to that stage should be the thing to worry about, if you get that, then the next step should be a piece of cake, unless the question is, "rationalise this..."

I have always been told that you should rationalise the denominator. You should do just to be on the safe side anyway, it will only take a few seconds.
