Just a quick poll to see how many people would be pleased if any subforums were implemented.

Over the last few months there has been talk of splitting the reading room up, but I am not sure if this would be worthwhile. Therefore, I have created a poll to see if you - the people - think that this move would be appropriate.

The main ideas are:
-A writing subforum (ie: for people who like to write)
-Genre split (crime fiction, scifi/spec fiction, etc)
-Century/period split (Victorian, Romantic, etc)

So, vote for the ones you would like to see.

I don't think it's a god idea; the Reading Room is one of the smallest sub-forums on BoS, and any move to split it into further sub-forums would just result in a risk of sub-forums havong nothing posted and taking up bandwidth.
If they aren't going to be used, then they aren't going to be "taking up bandwidth". Server space maybe, but not bandwidth.

I think the reading room is small enough to stay as one forum. I dont think there's enough traffic in here to justify splitting it up.

perhaps a popular fiction v literature split??
But then you'd have to be clear-cut about what constitutes 'literature' and what doesn't.

If anything I would most support a subforum for the writers here, as there is no specific place and there have been threads in the past about it. It would not necessarily require users to post their own stuff, but it would allow for talk on writing techniques, as well as discussion of fan fiction, etc.

I don't think a split is in order, for then we'd have a collection of dead subforums as there is just too small an amount of traffic. Also while I agree that the concept of writing being separated out is a good one there just isn't enough interest to bother unless you put in a rather large amount of energy to get it off the ground.

it's not like genre or period splits are very clear cut either
if anything it can make discussions more interesting and keep the overload of harry potter/dan brown/matthew reilly threads in one place

i don't like running things anyways. i like being a player. it doesn't have to be adventure fantasy. i can be anything as long as the participants know what's going on and shares a common interest. i'm part of a car racing RPG on another forum.
