recording and storing sound in multimedia (1 Viewer)

there is a question in a paper that says "describe in detail how the sound component of multimedia is recorded and stored. include a labelled diagram"

i dont understand what it is asking, i dont know how to draw the diagram either...

any ideas??

You need to talk about both hardware and software

Hardware: microphone, soundcard, computer with adequate specs to run everything, speakers

Software: you need to talk about how the microphone changes ur voice into an electrical signal, and then how the soundcard changes that analogue signal to a digital signal
You should also talk about sample size and sample rate

that digital signal is now saved in a format e.g. .wav or .mp3
and stored on a harddrive or cd etc
