just having a look at the centrelink website and it says to be eligible for RA you -

don't have dependent children, receive an allowance or benefit and you have to be under 25 and living permanently or indefinitely apart from your parents or guardians.
does moving out from melbourne and living on campus at ANU come under that? because im not sure whether its permanent... i am planning to head back home after my first year (to monash) - would these intentions rule me out?

and for anyone who receives RA - how much do you get?

thanks

I don't actually know, but a year is a pretty long time to be away from home, it's not like you're just visiting there for a week. You're moving out of home, and while you're thinking of moving back after a year, there's gotta be some possibility that it doesn't happen and then you would have qualified. I get the impression that the statement is for other purposes and you should get it. They'd have people moving back home all the time, as long as they're told when you do I don't think the fact that you plan to in a year matters (although I just wouldn't tell them).

I get ~$100 a fortnight rent assistance, I think it's the full amount.

depends how much your parents earn if you are straight out of school.
the whole thing is totally fucked.
if your parents earn more than 70,000 COMBINED income a year - you can generally get absolutely nothing unless you have earned some 18,000 in 18 months thing. thats that you do for youth allowance - impretty sure its the same for RA.
i called them and had a go at them because 70,000 is a shotty amount of for 2 people...
