My uai was 86.15, i got 93 in art, 84 in business, 88 in ipt, 78 in english, 80 in sdd.

I know i didn't try hard enough... basically i want to do law. I'm set on it, not for the job or the career but for a genuine interest in it and i believe it could help me throughout my life & any future career.

Basically i do low scaling subjects... but i figure my marks in ipt can't improve and in art i got 93 so i'll keep that. Do you people believe it would be a good idea for me to repeat english, business and sdd? Can this be done thru tafe?

My other option is law at UNE, i'm willing to make the trip... but is the course any good?

I would be aiming for unsw but uws would be fine too.

do you think it's worth it?
like.. my parents are happy with my result, i didn't do too bad considering the lack of effort (ie, not reading any of the english books) but i'd probably put all that down to the ammount of serious traumatic events that happened to me during this last year making me lose my will to succeed.

Have you thought about ANU? Though the cutoff is 95, there are a variety of alternative access schemes for those who didn't make the cutoff. Plus you've got a good enough UAI for Graduate Law at both UNSW and USYD.

About repeating, it can be a double edged sword. Personally, I'd only do it in the worst case scenario(just imagine if you got a lower UAI the second time around). Plus, you'd be more prone to laziness and arrogance. You'd have to really try hard the second time.

Yeah my parents were also happy with my results, but I think I should repeat rather than transfer & do something I don't like for a whole year

anu will accept someone who got 86? lol

I'm not sure exactly. You can appeal with a letter providing you got "marginally below the cutoff" but I have no idea how low that can be. You could also try EAS or something......

It sounds alright... but u'd have to actually BE at tafe while u're at uni ?

I could get eas, but i'm pretty sure that's only for around 5 points different.. if i got say 90 i could get in through eas.

What has everyone heard about une? I heard it was ok, i'm not sure if their law degree would exactly be worth my time tho.. since i'm pretty sure they just got one so they can 'appear' to be a 'prestigious' university.

I believe you can be pretty flexible with your timetable for both uni and tafe so I think you could avoid too many collisions.

That's the beauty though, you could even pick diff subjects. I dunno, I guess it's different for me, because the rest of mine were actually pretty good but my lack of attention in maths just really cost me (plus some STUPID errors in 4U). I know if I sat the tests again right now, with no assessment ranks, blah, that I would get better marks than my HSC marks represent, so I really want a second chance at this, and this time, it's full effort.

my test marks were much better than my total marks (english for example where i had a test mark of 86).
I think to get a desired uai i would need 90 something in busines, english, software... that wouldn't be so difficult.

Its not worth it repeating, just move on. Sure your bummed right now (You people got pretty good UAIs, better than me :p ), but you will find a way to get to do what you want to do. The HSC chapter of your life is over, move on to bigger and better things.

i think he/she has a point. there are many ways of going around it. Doing the HSC again doesn't have many advantages. The stress factor is so bad for you, that I don't think it's worth your mental health. If you can apply and receive EAS then do it, coz every point helps you. From there, do one year of something you WILL enjoy (and make sure it is something u will enjoy...i think a lot of people do B Arts and then transfer coz the Arts degree is very broad), and then transfer for second year. SOOOO many people do the transferring as they find it much for easier than re-doing the hsc. Unless you will be completely and i mean, COMPLETELY dedicated to doing ur hsc again, i think it'd be better to do transferring. Just remember it isn't the end of the world, coz u still did get a good mark. :) thats just my 2 cents.

As you said you aren't really that into the career of law and think it will help you anywhere, in this case a UNE law degree will do :). If you wanted to do Law as a career it might be different as you pretty much need to go to the bigger unis to get into the high practices of sydney.
