I know representation is to do with HOW the media communicates to us
But what is the "meaning"? can meaning be substituted with truth in that sentence?

But what is the "meaning"? can meaning be substituted with truth in that sentence?

Its basically talking about the relationship between what something means and what it can be made to mean. Though that is putting it crudely, it is basically what is being referred to.
To put it in context, the media has a fact which means certain things, they distort its representation in various ways so that the percieved meaning has altered. Thus truth is made difficult to discover.
