I think an inclination towards authoritarianism in general could be widely regarded as a psychological defect. Whether its rightist or leftist authoritarianism is irrelevant.

It depends.

If someone is a good student of their economics, they are knowledgable in its philosophy base.

For instance Marxism-Leninism is a heavy topic. Now there may be for some who are attracted to the philosophy by a common pyscological patern. Not all though, as people like workers who may come to it through necessity as most workes do through class conscious. That is they fight for wages, and when things don't go their way the get fed up with the system and look for other alternatives.

Its not actually known why Lenin or other middle class like him are drawn to Communism. So these type of people may have a the same pyscoligical patern. But once you start to learn about Marxism you learn different logic partens. So if you have a authoritarian marxist, this may not be the case of a pyscoligical 'defect'. As with Marxism you try to move away from any emotional or biased attachment.
