Hey all,

I'm doing Romanticism for my HSC, and I seem to be struggling a bit. :mad1:

I know they revolted against the Enlightenment Era, loved nature, cared more for the individual and not of what the community thinks, yada yada...

But apparently I need to know more of the Intellectual Values of Romanticism. :mad1: So, what exactly are my teachers trying to say?

Intellectual values = view of the world = philosophy

So, Romantic philosophies... Well, gee... I got this list here. Hope it helps.

- Man/God/Nature trinity, Natural Supernaturalism, essence of God in nature, a God for each individual
- emotions as a form of transcendental meaning
- low art (eg. fairytales, folklore) on an equal level to courtly writing
- devalued sense of perfection+proportion
- society as a living organism, not a machine
- individualism, but need for society, for cultural and spiritual reasons

Political:
- liberalism, sense of equality, nationalism
- distaste for Classical politics, eg. absolutism
- notion that a king should instill love + devotion in the people, not employing fear

Heroes:
- beautiful soul in the ugly body
- monomaniacs, obsessed in pursuit of one thing
- rebels, free individuals with minimal sense of tradition + responsibility

Quick list. If you need me to elaborate something, just ask.
