Hi,
Ive got a laptop with an inbuilt wireless card and we use a router
Now,
i have installed IRC, but have no idea how to connect to the servers or how to port forward (if required) for the router to let through data from the IRC servers.
Damn routers!!!!!

IRC has stacks of kool stuff to download = )

Some IRC servers use an Identd server (port 113) to authenticate you... From there, theoreticaly, you don't need any more port forwarding. You don't need to forward any ports for the servers; your router should allow those connections through to the server (ie port 6667 to 7000)

However, if you intend to download from other people, esp if they're behind a firewall of sorts, too, you need to forward another port for the direct connections. This can be any number larger than about 1024 (good practise to use ones larger than that) and lower than about 65535 (or whatever that binary-based number is).

You then need to set your IRC client (ie mIRC) to use that port for direct connections.

Alternatively, you can use a thing called 'special application' forwarding, but that's only more useful if you've got multiple computers on your LAN connecting to IRC...

PM me if you need help...
