If you go to a bad school (400+) can the school pull ur ATAR down?

I've heard it's true.

Usually only because the students don't try.

Basically everything is ranks for your ATAR. If you actually try the likely chance is you will top a school ranked 400+ and your scxhool won't affect you

If you do really well at a "bad school", chances are that your marks will be considered outliers, and therefore you will be calculated separately from your school cohort. So there is still a good chance to get a high ATAR, regardless of which school you go to.

You shouldn't worry to much. Every year is a new year, chances are your current cohort is better.

Theoretically, no. In actuality, it's possible but it's not as bad as you think.

Personally, I think your school really doesn't pull you down. It's yourself that gets you pulled down because if you crap yourself, your marks will suffer and be detrimental to your rank which is what you deserve. Your assessment mark is based on your rank so it's quite fair. You get what you deserve.

Exclusions do occur such as good students being pulled down due to poor exams made by the school which don't follow the syllabus for example.

Q7 Does the school I attend matter?
No. The school attended does not feature in the ATAR calculation. The ATAR calculation is based only on marks
provided by the Board; no other information is used.

Quoted form UAC. I don't know what to believe, teachers say the school has NOTHING to do with it and so do the people who do the scaling????????
Anyone with factual advice?

The school I teach at is 400+ (i think), we still get state rankers and Premiers Awards. It's all up to the students as individuals.
