It's coming up because a new line in latex is made by \\ instead of just hitting enter.

It's because you've still got the code spaced out with new lines, you have to have it all in the one line and separated by \\ for new lines.

Alternatively you can wrap each new line you want in a new set of latex tags to make it easier, I often do this.
