I am using a MS Wheelmouse optical.

problem: although it happens rarely, the mouse pointer on the screen moves or shakes at that point even though my hand isnt on the mouse and that i can see it sitting quite still...is this some kind of phenomenon? like does the optics stuff up iin this model? or is a hacker gainsig control and something is trying to fight it?

You see i once had a hacker take control and was moving the mouse pointer around and not letting me move the mouse under my control [i turned the power switch off to solve it and killed any viruses] but so this has made me a bit paranoid now.

has anyone else expereinced this or can solve it?

thanks

Is there anything in the way of the laser ? (eg. A hair). My mouse goes erratic if a hair gets in front of the laser - so that could be it.

If not, are there any unknown things in your system tray? Anything resembling an icon with the letters 'VNC' ?

VNC - It's a remote desktop accessing tool

a connection may cause the mouse cursor to shake

That is the most amusing thing I have read all day. Thankyou.

Ye VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing
I seldomly use it to help ppl over the internet on some stuff that they don't know what do to. Like last time I used VNC to do my "team-based" assessment for software, lol neither of us were bothered to come over.
Anyways bttp I have an MS Basic Optical Mouse (Wheeled) and had some similarities with this problem, I've now minimised this problem by increasing the sample rate and purchasing a mouse pad that were truly made for optical mouse. Other mouse pads may be too reflective, hence the sensor would receive an overwhelming amount of light so the cursor just goes no where. Increasing the sample rate has been discussed earlier by me at the following link:

I had problems with that mouse, but mine were different problems like saying it wasnt connected when it was and I had to constantly fiddle with the USB connection. How long have you had the mouse? You mind posting a pic of it? Cause I think its the same model as my old one. I made a few threads on the problem not long back (a month or 2 at max). They might help
