My HSC trials are coming up soon and i need help ASAP. Im doing Shaun Tan's short film "the lost thing" as my related text to belonging and i need help with techniques and such.

The most i can recall off the top of my head are:
- When the boy meets the lost thing, it looks inside of it. The dark, empty space is a metaphor for feeling lonely and not belonging. The echo when spoken into emphasises this concept of not belonging
- During the scene where the boy and the lost thing are walking through the streets, they are going the opposite direction to the flow of the crowd and displays the idea of not belonging. Furthermore, the bright red colour of the lost thing is contrasted to the plain, dull colours of the rest of the world, thus enforcing the idea of not belonging.
- As the boy is chucking things into the lost thing's "head", a bright glow illuminates the area around the thing and the boy while the background is faded to black. This symbolises the point at which the boy and the lost thing make a connection, therefore a sense of connection is established.

As of now, thats all i got. Although im not a complete dumb tard, i am struggling with english and particularly this topic. Any additional techniques, ideas or anything is much appreciated. Thank you =D

I know there's a stackloads of techniques in that little AV piece.

It's been awhile since I've watched so I can't remember specifics but look at;
*Narration
*Colours
*Soundtrack/Sound Effects
*Spacing (protagonist always shown off centre)
*I believe there's a scene where the protagonist walks directly against the tide of people, this shows his individuality from the masses.
*I believe you could talk about the imposing government figure when he is trying to find the Lost Thing a home, they are shown with upwards shot and elevated highly.
