I have been hitting around 60% in past hsc papers.
However my internal assessment mark was 16 :s
I know we're not supposed to get it, our school stuffed it up. My teacher told me I only got that low because he had to play around with the standard deviation because 3 students were on the same mark, but that it wouldn't affect me because I am coming 6/6 (last) in my class.
so my question is, will my mx1 hsc mark be based solely on my external exam mark, or does that assessment mark of 16 come into play?
Thanks for any help ;)

If 3 students are on the same assessment mark, they come equal first, you do not have to have a difference between them. Secondly, your HSC mark is made up of 50% or your aligned test mark in your HSC exam, and 50% of your internal moderated assessment mark. The 50% internal mark is drawn from the results in the HSC test, as the top mark in the HSC test is aligned to the top rank, in your case top 3 people. From there, the next assessment marks are distributed in rank order, but scaled up or down depending on the relative gaps between students. here is an example.

e.g. HSC test mark / School assessment mark / Moderated assessment mark/100

rank 1 85 / 70 / 90
rank 2 90 / 68 / 87
rank 3 75 / 62 / 80
rank 4 70 / 32 / 63

the moderated assessment marks sum to the same as the total hsc mark sum. yet if you had a larger relative gap between your internal assessment marks, your moderated assessment marks will also have a large gap.

finally, add 50% of your HSC test mark to 50% of your moderated assessment mark, and you have your final HSC mark/100
hope this helps
