so I really wanted to drop sac before but now after getting prelim marks and thinking about it i might want to drop bio instead. But idk the average for sac. Cause if I'm below average for sac i def will drop. Update: average was 41/60 I got 45/60

I've been wanting to drop sac since term 1 but idk why I'm contemplating it now.

But the main point is: Bio is more work, my worst subject but is slightly more interesting.
SAC is less work, I'm doing better in but is less interesting. but idk maybe i can enjoy it more

SubjectProsCons
SAC (Society and Culture)- Got 75% in prelims even without much study. I literally bludged the whole of year 11, chatgpted all my worksheets, etc
- Easier to improve with examples and effort
- “Free marks” even without studying
- Year 12 topics seem more interesting
- PIP (major project) could be fun
- Can be enjoyable if you romanticise it and engage more
- Teacher makes it boring (too many worksheets)
- Requires doing a PIP (extra workload – 2 major works total)- but I'm fine with doing that
- Depends on motivation and interest to stay engaged
Biology- Slightly above average in prelims by 1.5 marks (my mark- 53%)
- Year 12 content is more interesting than Year 11
- Can improve with focused study but it will take a lot of effort and even then idk if I can do that good. like prob max 75-80%
- Not that interested in the subject but it's ok
- Requires lots of memorisation and content
- Feels like more work for less reward. I really need to improve in math so trying to make a comeback in math and bio might whilst doing well in my other subjects might be too much

After reading through you're pros and cons, I think dropping bio might be better.
I'm guessing that you definitely studied for bio prelims a bunch more than SAC.
I think SAC in the long run might be beneficial if you put a bit of effort in, and you do seem interested apart from ur boring teacher.

yeah the only thing that's I'm not sure of is what if I regret and I end up hating sac like so much. Now I have to go back to the director of studies, get a brand new form and explain to her the real reason why I wanted to drop and explain why I changed my mind lmao.

I do both bio and sac, let's just say i should've dropped bio in yr 11 instead of earth environmental 💔, especially since i'm getting around 50-60% (around rank 30) in bio rn compared to sac where I've been getting 80-90% (rank 4)
Biology is incredibly content heavy + difficult marking scheme, it took a lot of effort for me to finally raise my rank during trials. Of course, if you enjoy the subject and have the confidence to improve, u should keep the subject, especially if the foundational content helps u in whatever degree u want in uni
Sac content is more easier to memorise and apply in exams since it has a very basic structure, and the content during yr 12 is a lot more enjoyable especially Pop Culture, and, if u manage ur time wisely u can score a high band for ur PIP which makes up 40% of ur external marks, an absolute bargain ngl, I guess the only downside would be the 'scaling', tho i doubt you'd be affected much if u manage in the high 80s to 90s. As for ur boring teacher, I'm gonna be honest i had 3 teacher changes throughout my entire course and i always relied on outside sources such as youtube and studocu to engage in my content
ultimately, it's ur decision, and u should choose whatever option would be more comfortable

omg I also need to explain to my bio teacher now and she's gonna be so sad. I'm gonna talk to both my sac and bio teachers too but my sac teacher is on leave so idk if he'll reply to my email

Fucking HSC biology feels like a humanities than an actual science lmfao. Just look at what AP bio exams look like 💀

Actual scientific skills are employed in AP biology exams incomparison to the shit stain HSC "regurgitate what you just learnt and write like shakespeare" syllabus.

Biology isn't fucking meant to be a memorization subject, nor is it suppose to be a test on your fucking writing ability. Your ability to write like shakespeare shouldn't be what gets you a 8/8 compared to someone with key points and stronger evidence.

The fucking HSC forces you to memorise random examples "Include an example". Why the fuck don't you ask better questions then?

How is it that Australia has one of THE worst high school science education?

That's a shame I get it. If you did the VCE, you'd enjoy it 100x more. You barely need memorisation for VCE biology as it is an actual biology education and examination.
but it's not just that. It's also the way they mark is annoying and it's just a lot of content and work

i dropped pdh in year 11 instead of bio and i regretted it pretty much the whole year till the month before trials, where we finished content and i decided to lock in

i ended up getting a band 6 for my bio trials, far more than i expected, but this required a lot of hard work

i love studying bio now but that’s cuz i got the results i wanted

so summary, i think u should drop bio bc although u claim to be less interested in sac, u have an entire year to love it and again, you always need a subject on the side that’s easy for u

You required hard work SINCE the HSC biology syllabus is purely rote-learning.

BRUH WE GET IT U HATE THE SYLLABUS STOP BRINGING IT IN EVERY DISCUSSION OMDDD
It's fucking unbearable. NESA could have changed the 2027 syllabus for the better to be in line with the rigour of at least VCE, but they didn't. They just made it like the early 2000s all over again. So I'm advocating for change, HSC is fucking boring as shit because of it.
