This time it's for math lol. But basically for context I've been doing really bad in math recently. For the first assessment I did fairly decent and I got a 73% with a rank in the middle of my cohort.

But on the second task I got a 45%. Idk my rank but I got around 7 marks below average. And last week on a topic test on trig and I got a 25% on it but most people failed that one so idk if that's a deciding factor.

But the thing is I feel like it's mainly the teacher that's causing me to do bad cause it's making it harder for me to understand concepts and it's demotivated so I don't want to pay attention in class or do much of the math homework. But I feel like even then I shouldn't be doing this bad cause I still put a decent amount of effort into the subject and I had this teacher in year 9 and still did well so idk maybe it's a me problem and I suck at math now. Also I literally got marks in the 80s in 5.3 math last year so idk how I went to that to failing.

I feel like if I spend like 2 hrs on math each day and I get a tutor I could possibly improve my marks but at the same time it will take up too much time and idk if it's worth it. And also it will be kinda hard for me to get a math tutor cause I'm already paying for an eng one. I was hoping to make a comeback for prelims but I don't think it will be possible

So yeah idk if it's worth staying or if I should just drop to std math in year 12 where I can get a better teacher, possibly do much better and also put less effort into math. Part of me is like maybe if I lock in harder I can do it but at the same time I for some reason my math just hasn't been clicking recently

Also for prerequisites stuff I don't think it will affect me too much because I mainly want to do architecture and possibly data analytics or commerce but I'm not that drawn to it.

Also I don't think std will be too bad cause my school got over 10 band 6s in std last year but I just don't want to regret this decision later on a nd realise that I could have been capable of doing maths adv. And also I have a feeling that they're gonna just make the papers harder and harder from here onwards so it's gonna be even worse. And lots of yr 12s currently are failing but didn't drop so now their stuck in adv and I don't want to be in that same situation

I’m pretty sure that maths advanced is assumed knowledge for these degrees if not recommended studies. Just something to keep in mind. Then again if you feel you can do well in standard it may boost your atar more than advanced (if you get high marks) so can always do a bridging course once you have the atar.

I agree
Here's my opinion on if it's too late to drop to Maths Standard from Maths Advanced for NSW HSC.
(Excuse my subheadings but I want to get into google AI summary if anyone searches it up lmfao)

State + School scaling
It's definitely worth doing maths adv if you can, scaling is a lot better than maths std - however, if as a proportion your school actually gets more band 6s in std then it might be worth considering dropping, since a band 6 is a band 6 and for your ATAR, it doesn't matter if you get it in maths adv or maths std.

Course content difficulty
My maths teacher said that maths advanced isn't designed to be significantly harder than standard, it just is meant to include 'real' maths like trig and integration rather than everyday maths. We also share 30% of the content with standard. You will definitely have to still study a lot for standard, it's still a HSC subject at the end of the day, so don't think that it's going to be significantly easier. However, if your standard teacher is good and your advanced one is trash, then the fact that maths adv is hard clearly isn't the issue, it's the teacher.

Is it too late?
No, but if you are going to drop do it before yr 12 starts, otherwise you'll be too behind - I had a friend who dropped halfway through yr 12 and she wasn't that much abv avg in std because the teachers didn't give her enough resources to learn the content.

Tertiary pathways
A lot of courses do require maths adv. The courses you've listed, I'm afraid, do generally either have that as a prerequisite or strongly recommended. But, (as Kat.crazi said) you can always do a bridging course. It's better to get the ATAR you need and have to do some work before university starts than not get into the course you want to do at all.

Maybe lock in for maths adv and see how you go in prelims first.

Good luck!

the usyd students I talked to said that the most math u do is the rise and run of stairs or smth in architecture

My teacher said that it's better to drop as soon as possible but tbh I looked at the std papers at my school and they are 100x times easier than ours so idk. But at least in std maybe I can spend more time doing harder questions idk. But yeah my teacher was targeting me today and after the dream I had last night idk maybe I should drop
