I did horribly in my Math Adv prelim exam (23%) and was urged by my teacher to drop to Standard. I got 50% in Term 1, and 70% in Term 2 ranking 1st in my class. My other subjects are time consuming and I plan to drop Engineering studies if I stay in Adv. I am torn between relearning the entirety of Standard or staying in Adv and risking my HSC. I believe that if I really put in a lot of effort I'd be able to do decent in Adv.

if you are willing to spend the time recovering from the 23% and enjoy the subject (optional), don't drop it. otherwise you should drop down to standard 2, the content is way easier and you should be able to get over band 5 easily. this is coming from a person who dropped advanced (19% on the prelim), and i'm getting around low 70s to high 80s in my maths standard 2 exams with about the same effort i put into advanced. from my experience when i dropped down to standard 2, i already knew majority of the stuff because i learned it in year 9-10.
