I know this is a silly question because obviously English marks have nothing to do with history, but I've heard the writing style for history ext is similar to what they expect in English, and the fact that most people that get an e4 in it also tend to take eng ext, which I don't. I did terrible in English adv this year, but good in history and i'm wondering if my more basic writing style is going to affect how I do in the subject since its all essays (about more complex topics than in ancient/modern).

I would argue that the essays are so different, between English Advanced and Modern History - I would argue that Modern's essays are a lot closer to the style of Ext. History. However, I did do Extension English in Y11 and I have always done a lot better in writing essays.

In relation to essay structure and your concerns - its definitely easier if you are able to do more complicated essays, but one would hope that your teacher would support you in advancing their skills. Doing Ext. History certainly helped in bettering my essay skills across subjects and you can always drop Ext. History if it doesn't work out.

It's 100% worth a try, it is so fun and you get a lot more opportunity to do independent thinking/work which I found also helped in my essay writing.

Also its not a silly question - in Stage 6 I would argue that all of the essay writing subjects are intertwined, especially the HSIE and English.

Thank you so much, that makes me feel so much better about taking it. My essay writing in history has been getting me good marks in it and my school generally does well in extension history so hopefully my teacher can help with improving my writing like you said.

Also good luck with your HSC exams!!

no absolutely not. the writing styles are very different that it is almost incomparable - as long as you can find evidence and sustain a good argument in history extension, you are good to go. i took english extension 1 in year 11 and dropped it after getter 68% in prelims (actually atrocious, i literally prepared at 10pm the night before) but i'm still doing good in hisext. so no worries at all.
