For B Science, a new major is now available in Vision Science commencing in 2006.
Please note this is not the same as Optometry.

Further changes include:
Removal of Bachelor of Optometry. (not longer offered in 2006)
This is replaced with the combined degree of B Science/B Optometry. This is a five-year degree, relacing B optom a four year degree.

Unfortunately for future Optometry students, one year extra HECS (now known as HELP) :D

To encourage a more liberal(hence less vocational) education... else universities will just turn into technician factories.

Yeah. I think the they have dedicated some units of credits towards work experience, like med

And in the first year, more bio, chem and physics, the fundamentals.
