Some questions on semiconductors and transistors (1 Viewer)

Here a some parts of a research assignment that i'm struggling to find relevant info for. Any help or shoves in the right direction would be great

* Describe and identify the three most common transistors available today

*Assess the impact of the invention of transistors on society with particular reference to their use in microchips and microprocessors via:
*the storage of digital information (tapes, CDs, RAM, ROM computer storage and Flash memory)
*the use of microprocessors in instrumentation

*Describe the operation and general electrical properties of an n-p-n and a p-n-p junction

A boost in aq direction would be to check out the Dick Smith catalogs. They have lots of great technical info on transistors and other components.

Now, when it says the three most common sorts, does it mean NPN and PNP and .... or something else, eg power transostor?
